1.What are the 6 main sections of the Photoshop work area?

1. The menu bar, with File, Edit, Image, Layer, Select, Filter, View, Window, and Help otions.

2. The image window, which appears when you create a new image, You can't reach this window without entering your specifications for the size of the image.

3. and 4 The Tool bar and Floating Palettes are made available by choosing show Toolbars and show layers, show colors, show navigator from the Windows menu choice. If you close Photoshop with one of the palettes is visible, it will be there in the same location when you next open Photoshop.

5. The Status bar at the bottom of the Photoshop window gives information about the open active document, ie document size, scratch file space, type of color, efficiency, and time (to upload?) Also lets you zoom in or out by entering percentage in the magnification box.

Scanned Photos

Actually a scanned photo and downloaded image. Put image on layers of about 18% opacity. Have one gradient layer. Adjusted blue/red ratio on one layer, (the building), then merged and flattened to try and make the file smaller.

 

4. Where can you change cursor display? Edit, preferences, Display cursor

5. How do I add additional Plug-in directory? Edit, preferences, Plug ins and Scratch Disk
6. How do you automatically create a log of all your edits to an image? Do not have CS.
7. What does "Your scratch disk is full mean?" All virtual memory (hard disk space) allocated for Photoshop is full. You need to allocate more disk space for Photoshop.
8. What is the advantage of using the browse feature, as opposed to a desktop folder/ It saves you from having to leave the Photoshop or having to minimize it to find a file. Also if the thumbnail preview is active, you can see the file before choosing it.
9. What is the difference between a flattened and unflattened PSD file? A flattened file has all the layers merged into one. This makes a much smaller file, but one you can no longer edit as easily, by going into a file. When it's still in layers you can change it easily.
10. Describe 2 ways to create images in Photoshop.

1.You can create them directly in the image window using tools and palettes.

2. You can bring them in by scanning, downloading, pasting or placing.

11. How do you save a file with layers and annotations intact and as a copy. File, Save, and check layers, annotations, and save as a copy.
12. Where would you find the subcommands for menu items? On the drop down menus from these commands
13. What does black triangle in menu command indicate? That there are more than one choices under that subcommand.
14. What do three small dots after a menu command mean? That there will be a dialog box modifying the command.
15.How would you bring up the status bar? By opening or creating a file
16. How to determine memory using while working on an image? The numbers are shown on the status bar.
17. What are benefits of using the status bar while you work? You would know if your system is about to freeze, if the file is getting too big. Since there is a percentage box, you can zoom easily whithout leaving the image window.
18. What file format is most used for continuous tone images for internet? Jpeg
19. What format would you save as to create a transparent or animated image? Gif
20. What format will preserve layers PSD format
21. What are keyboard shorcuts and why use them? combinations of keys instead of mouse cliking. With a Mac, it's typically the mac toggle key and a letter, instead of control plus letter for PC, Using keystrokes is faster than clicking.
